PFS Awarded Contract to Support Healthy Boundaries Training for Veterans Health Adminstration

WASHINGTON, DC – Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) was awarded a contract with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Assault and Harassment Prevention Office (AHPO) to help create positive cultural change through healthy boundaries and unconscious bias trainings.

VHA is committed to a safe, respectful, and welcoming healthcare system for Veterans and their beneficiaries, VA staff, volunteers, and guests. Yet according to recent research, a significant number of women Veterans who are routine users of VA primary care clinics reported several forms of harassment or inappropriate or unwanted comments or behaviors by male Veterans on VA grounds.

The AHPO is responsible for overseeing the coordination and implementation of national harassment and sexual assault policies, reporting strategies, and cultural change efforts for VHA. AHPO provides education, tools, and initiatives, to reduce harmful behaviors and increase respectful and safe environments to best serve employees, Veterans, visitors, and caretakers, and increase awareness of response capabilities. The PFS team will work with AHPO and other VA leaders to develop a series of healthy boundaries and unconscious bias trainings.

“These trainings will equip frontline staff with the skills and techniques to manage or respond to inappropriate patient- to-employee behaviors,” says Kamran Sartaj, PFS Vice President, Organizational Change & Strategic Communications. “Our goal is to help create more trust and healthier relationships within the VA healthcare system, so that no matter who you are, you feel safe, respected, and welcomed when you receive care at VA.”

PFS Awarded a Contract for Women Health’s Mini-Residency for Rural Providers and Nurses Training Program for Veterans Health Administration

WASHINGTON, DC – Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) was awarded a contract with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Office of Women’s Health (OWH) Women’s Health Mini-Residency for Rural Providers and Nurses Training Program. Goals of the training are to improve familiarity, knowledge and skills of primary care providers and nurses in women’s health topics, to increase women Veteran access to women’s health primary care providers and to enhance/improve the quality of healthcare women Veterans receive.

The VHA patient population of women Veterans is growing rapidly. Such growth brings increasing demand for high quality gender-specific health care. Approximately 26% of enrolled women Veterans reside in rural and highly rural areas of the county. These areas need more trained primary care providers who are also designated as Women’s Health Primary Providers (WH-PCP), as well as nursing staff trained in women’s health. OWH has developed and delivered a comprehensive education and training model called the Women’s Health Mini-Residency since 2008 for clinical staff to address gaps in knowledge and skills in women’s health topics. Although over 5,500 primary care providers and 3,000 primary care nurses have been trained in this mini-residency program, additional training needs persist.

“Our mini-residency program strives to ensure that women Veterans located in rural areas are still afforded the opportunity to receive the optimal healthcare they so rightfully deserve,” said Vice President, Carl Fortune. “Our dedicated team of instructors are committed to the training and development of providers and nurses to help close the disparity gap.”

PFS clinical instructors, gynecological teaching associates, and equipment support individuals will join OWH to offer instruction and delivery of OWH’s mini-residency training program on women’s health topics. They will train VHA clinical primary care providers and nurses at rural Community Based Outpatient Clinics across the country to help these providers and nurses address the unique health needs of women and improve the quality of healthcare women Veterans receive.
